Tory MP Andrew Rosindell Bailed by Police for Fourth Time in Rape Investigation

Conservative MP for Romford Andrew Rosindell MP

Tory MP Andrew Rosindell, who was arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault, abuse of a position of trust and misconduct in public office in May 2022, has been bailed by the Metropolitan Police for a fourth time whilst enquiries continue.

As we revealed exclusively in May 2022, Mr Rosindell was arrested by the Metropolitan Police following allegations made in January 2022.

At the time a Conservative Whips’ Office spokesperson said the MP would be asked not to attend the parliamentary estate until further notice. This appears to have been adhered to.

Despite these allegations, Mr Rosindell has been seen out canvassing in his constituency meeting residents but has not held an in person surgery since his original arrest.

Andrew Rosindell MP’s latest tweet, 2 days before bail was extended.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office.

“He was taken into custody and has since been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in mid-May 2023.

“An investigation is ongoing, led by officers from Central Specialist Crime.”

Mr Rosindell remains innocent until proven otherwise. Black Isle Media has published Mr Rosindell’s identity as we believe his position as an MP raises a unique public interest argument due to his ability to meet various vulnerable groups without vetting, even whilst under investigation.

As Labour MP Jess Phillips stated: constituents may feel entitled to know if it is their MP so they can make an informed decision on meeting him. We believe this to be the case and that naming him also contributes to improved safeguarding.

Since naming Mr Rosindell in May 2022, no action has been taken against Black Isle Media by authorities or Mr Rosindell.
