Tory MP Andrew Rosindell Arrested on Suspicion of Sexual Offences

MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell

Conservative MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell has been arrested on suspicion of several sexual offences, with the Tory chief whip banning him from attending the House of Commons until further notice.

A source in the Metropolitan Police Unit investigating these allegations confirmed to me that Rosindell was arrested earlier today at a preplanned appointment. The Met had liased with the Commons authorities and Tory Whips in advance, hence how they have been able to tell him not to attend Parliament despite him being under arrest and uncontactable.

A Conservative Whips’ Office spokesperson said the MP would be asked not to attend the parliamentary estate until further notice.

“The chief whip has asked that the MP concerned does not attend the parliamentary estate while an investigation is ongoing. Until the conclusion of the investigation we will not be commenting further.”

Scotland Yard confirmed a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in a public office.

The offenses are alleged to have occurred between 2002 and 2009 in London.

Andrew Rosindell was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Romford constituency of Greater London in 2001. He has been the chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Flags & Heraldry Committee and sits on the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on British Overseas Territories.

He remains in custody at this time.

UPDATE: Mr Rosindell has been released in bail pending further enquiries. He has no formal conditions preventing him meeting vulnerable constituents and/or children.

He remains innocent until proven otherwise. Black Isle Media has published Mr Rosindell’s identity as we believe his position as an MP raises a unique public interest argument due to his ability to meet various vulnerable groups without vetting, even while under investigation. As Labour MP Jess Phillips stated, constituents may feel entitled to know if it is their MP so they can make an informed decision on meeting him. We believe this to be the case and that naming him also contributes to improved safeguarding.

  • Kudos for finding out the name so fast! Well done!

  • Is this the real name?

    • According to Guido Fawkes website no one at the name’s office is answering the phone so not even a “no comment” is available!

  • Well done fir breaking this first

  • Thank you for revealing this man’s identity. According to the BBC news the Tories are keeping him anonymous to protect his victim(s), which to me seems thoroughly disingenuous.

  • There have been stories about him in Romford for years.

  • Hey Alex, hope you and the family are well mate.

Where do you (personally) and Black Isle Media (professionally) legally stand in regards
to naming this Tory MP accused of these heinous crimes.

As you’re probably aware, many people on Social Media are alleging that it’s a different Tory MP accused of these disgusting alleged offences.

With more than 50 MP’s (mostly Tories allegedly) under investigation by Parliamentary Standards for sexual offences, how is it possible to put one particular Tory in the dock for these reported crimes?

    Cheers mate
