Disgraced Tory MP Andrew Griffiths and his sick views

Saturday saw the Daily Mirror break yet another story of a Tory minister behaving inappropriately. This time it saw new dad and Small Business Minister Andrew Griffiths issuing the standard apology to constituents and his family. But the content of the messages is much more disturbing than what we’ve become accustomed too.

Griffiths who is married and became a dad in March quit Small Business Minister after it emerged he sent constituent Imogen Treharne and her friend over 2,000 desperate messages depicting violent sex acts and pleading for explicit images.

Sick Griffiths boasted he had beaten women during sex sessions, even asking to beat Imogen’s friend for his pleasure.

Mr Griffiths was chief of staff to Prime Minister Theresa May when the Tories were in opposition. On Friday he submitted his resignation from the cabinet in anticipation of the upcoming story.

More concerned about his sex life than his family

What did surprise and sicken me was that he messaged on June 17; Father’s Day. As a father I remember my first father’s day, it was great. I wanted to make the most of it not message anyone, let alone someone I’ve never met.

The fact that he was more concerned about his sex life disturbs me.

Griffiths messaged Imogen and referenced it was father’s day then saying “Daddy’s get treats. Do you think Daddy deserves a treat?”

Then, at 4.30pm, he said his Father’s Day was going “perfectly”, before adding: “I just wish my little girl was sat on my knee. With those big t*ts in my face.”

The same day he appeared on a the BBC. At 4.24pm he tweeted a message to followers thanking the NHS for the care they gave his daughter. He seems to live a double life.

Sick views on treatment of women

Griffiths’ sick views were made all more apparent as the Daily Mirror had obtained copies of the messages. They published them across their various platforms for the world to see.

I understand that people have their vices however, this is an MP who supposedly champions women’s rights. He obviously knows this can’t get out, as he references he has to be careful in the messages.

Furthermore, for a man who supposedly support banning upskirting this particular message is sick;

“I want to be able to lift your skirts over dinner and show my friends.”

How can he stay an an MP after that? It’s an abhorrent thing to say.

Some other messages Griffiths sent to the women

  • “I’m going to bring you to London and do whatever I want to you.”
  • “I’m thinking maybe we need a flat for Daddy’s girls. I’m taken by you both. You girls are spectacular.”
  • “I’m the daddy with power. I’m the daddy with the naughtiest streak.”
  • Sent with a selfie outside Buckingham Palace: “Daddy met the future king tonight: but thought of you.”
  • “A horny daddy is a generous daddy.”
  • “If you need money you just need to ask….it’s fine baby, tell me what you want and I will arrange something. But I’m going to need something f**king filthy to put a smile on my face first, I want to see you both naked.”
  • Would you have thought I was such a naughty man?”

The man is desperate, this despite him being a married man with a new child. What I want to know is; will more women come forward?

It doesn’t look like the MP is new to this. I feel for his wife and family at this time as it’s no doubt destroyed their world.

Plus some of these messages were sent during commons debates and votes. How can he be doing his job if he’s begging for explicit pictures and videos? It is a disgrace.

Refusing to quit as MP

Andrew Griffiths and Theresa May

Andrew Griffiths and Theresa May

Yesterday the MP for Burton and Uttoxeter in Staffordshire sent a second grovelling apology to constituents as he begged: “Judge me on my actions and achievements during eight years as MP rather than a few moments of stupidity.”

Firstly, he abused his position of power as Imogen and her friend were constituents of his. If anyone else in such a position did this, they would be fired for gross misconduct.

Secondly, how can this man be expected to interact with children and women after this? His views on how to treat women are very clear. I for one would not let that man within 100 miles of my children.

My thoughts

thinking manAfter last years various sex scandals at Westminster we have sadly become accustomed to behaviour like this.

On this occasion it is just more apparent as there’s evidence for all to see.

I do not see any way that he should be allowed to continue as an MP. He has breached the trust of the people who elected him and, his views are not what you would expect from somebody who is meant to represent you.

Theresa May however is weaker than ever following a spate of resignations. She cannot risk losing her majority. I doubt she or party Tory Chairman Brandon Lewis will take any further action but, the parliamentary standards committee will surely be looking into this.

If any MP is reading this I urge you to call for an emergency debate on this matter. MPs are meant to be an example to those who they represent. I doubt the people of Burton and Uttoxeter want this as an example.

  • A number of coroners have come out and stated that the DWP played a role in the death of sick and disabled benefit claimants. Why haven’t the DWP ministers resigned or faced calls for their prosecution? Because it isn’t a Westminster sexual harassment scandal.

There is clearly a double-standard in British politics when a Westminster sexual harassment scandal results in MP resignations but a benefit deaths scandal does not.
